Economic flexible AC transmission system devices placement/sizing with (N-1) contingency using genetic algorithm

<span>The rise in demand for electricity and the high cost of constructing new power networks reckons optimal utilization electric overloading excessive transfer along transmission lines, losses, voltage instability, poor quality, reliability issues. Flexible AC system (FACTS) boosts static dynamic performance systems. Although efficient by improving quality profile enhancement is controlled using FACTS devices placement, types, sizing are important parameters to be optimized system. This paper develops economic multiple FACT placements solution during N-1 contingency conditions. Placement being stochastic problem meta-heuristic algorithm genetic (GA) used applied on standard IEEE 9 bus MATLAB-based simulation developed placement single different scenarios (without devices, with devices). Both VAR compensators (SVC) thyristor-controlled series capacitors (TCSC) (either or multiple) optimize loss total cost. The results show that reduction 70% compensation working better about 0.1 MW lesser many cases.</span>
